Social Pricing Concession is an option that adjusts the prices of all Training, Clinics and Open Houses under Forest School Singapore, enabling participants from all socio-economic backgrounds to access our programs. How we came to introduce the Social Pricing Concessions
Our founder, Darren, was first introduced to the idea of Social pricing mechanism when he was in a Philippines Forest School in Davao, Mindanao in December 2015. He saw how the children of expats, with average income above USD$5000, and the children of trishaw riders, some of whom have income below the poverty line, were in the same compound attending the same forest school classes. This inspired him to bring this to his own Forest School endeavours. When he came back, he did more research on the mechanism and adapted it to suit the local socio-economic context.
Darren’s background in various fields over the past 18 years have given him insights into multiple facets of our society. In social volunteerism, he volunteered with elderly, children, youth-at-risk, arts-cultural-heritage movements and medical areas at both the planning and groundwork phases. In overseas humanitarian work, he was involved in an initiative involving the adoption of schools in India. He led community involvement projects for schools as a local guide. His experiences as an executor and planner in these projects gave him insights into corruption, and the deeply-rooted issues behind poverty. Darren’s experience as a career and life consultant, also comes into good use in understanding the full picture.
How does the Social Pricing Concession Work?
- Apply for Social Pricing Concession
- F.S.S. will review
- If more understanding is needed, we will contact the applicant by a phone call to have a conversation, so as to understand their situation and internal motivation to join us.
- If no further understanding is needed, the Application will be given a decision.
- F.S.S. will email the applicant to let them know the result of the application and the offered the Concession amount. (It can range from 5% to 90% of the full amount, if approved).
- Applicants will then register for the program as per usual, but pay the concession amount only.
