Most Forest School (FS) literature focuses on pedagogy, its impact on children or the environment(O’Brien & Murray, 2007), or risk(Button & Wilde, 2019). Minimal research has been done on the practitioners’ experiences with FS; and even less research has been done on the practitioners’ anxiety while engaging with FS.
Understanding practitioner anxiety is crucial because it directly affects their wellbeing, their capacity to deliver FS programs and the sustainability of FS programs. This study broadens FS research beyond just studying the efficacy of the practice by examining the process and challenges practitioners face in their work.
In this presentation workshop, Shin Ee and Darren will be presenting their preliminary findings from the research that we have collected over the past few months. Shin Ee and Darren will also be presenting this research at the 11th International Outdoor Education Research Conference in Norway, in June this year. Come catch a first glimpse of the findings on “Forest School Practitioners’ experience of Anxiety”.
